Ondo police arrest more suspects for bank robbery

The Ondo State Police Command said it has arrested more suspects in connection with the March 26 bank robbery in Owo, with the assistance of other police formations in Edo and Kogi states.

The Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, said on Monday in Akure that the suspects were picked up by policemen in Edo State, while his men were trailing the robbers from the Ondo State end.

The robbers, who attacked four banks and police stations in Owo, killed six policemen and a bank manager, before making away with a large sum of money.

Eke said the police succeeded in killing seven of the 50 robbers, while one of them was arrested alive.

He said, “A member of the gang that was arrested is assisting the police.”

He commended the role played by the army and other police formations in the successes recorded so far.

The police also apprehended a kidnapper, who allegedly abducted the Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ore, Mrs. Ayo Adepoju, on March 21.

The suspect, Romanus Ufete, 28, was said to have received N500,000 as ransom before she was released.

Eke said detectives arrested Romanus and another suspect, Akeem Lasisi, who later died of chest pain.

The CP said the suspects would be arraigned in court.
