Seven persons lost their lives in Kano state during the celebration of the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari victory on Tuesday night, emergency workers have said.
Our correspondent reports that five out of the seven persons were children who were crushed by a motorist riding on high speed along Kofar Dawanau in Dala local government area of the state.
An emergency worker at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital told Daily Trust that seven persons were confirmed dead at the hospital on Tuesday night.
He said the deceased were brought to the hospital from different locations were residents trooped out to celebrate Buhari’s victory.
When our correspondent went to the hospital around 10.am on Wednesday, nine persons who sustained various degrees of injuries were seen at the Emergency unit receiving medical attention.
In an interview, Rabiu Adamu who was at the emergency unit said he was hit by a speeding vehicle when he went out to their neighbourhood in order to watch the celebration.
“Five persons were confirmed dead when we were brought to the Hospital, their lifeless bodies have been taken by their parents,” he said.
A 10-year-old boy who was brought from Bebeji local government area of the state was seen with injuries on his head and legs at the emergency unit.
Daily Trust learnt only two corpses were deposited at the morgue.
One of the workers told our correspondent that one of the deceased was a boy who was hit by a speeding vehicle and that the other was killed by political thugs.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kano Police Command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia said the case has not been formally reported.
He urged the general public to be cautious in the celebration to avoid more casualties, just as he advised parents to warn their children against jumping to major roads in celebration.
